Biggest Mistake Ever

Hey world...

This blog is one of regret. This past weekend I made the BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. LITERALLY.

I've been DJing over a decade now, the last 4 years full-time, and until this past Friday I had never missed a gig/event. But somehow I put a wedding (I booked months ago) in my calendar on the wrong weekend & failed to double check or follow up with the client or my manager. The feeling I had when my manager called me can't even be described in words... It was beyond sickening. I'm @ my weekly gig setting up & get the worst news possible! I was in Downtown Detroit & this wedding reception was in Southgate, MI!! That's about an hour away!! Even though I found someone to go for me it was too little, too late!! The banquet hall had an on-site DJ who filled in, but that wasn't enough to make up for the HUGE mistake that was made. Even though it was an honest mistake, it was a HORRIBLE one.

I feel so bad for the bride & groom. I know how much weddings mean to people. I've always loved to book weddings because of the festive nature & the theme of a lifetime of love. These are the type of events that people remember forever. And I ruined that for this couple. May 11, 2012 will always be a date that sticks with me as a reminder to NEVER let this happen again. This was the first & last time something like this will occur. My heartfelt apology goes out to Annetra Jones for leaving a bad taste in her mouth & ruining her special day that she put so much time & effort into. AND I want to apologize to my former classmate Ane Moore (who referred me) for making her look bad. I hope they find it in your hearts to forgive me.

Been a long time...

What's up world!

Been a long time since the last blog... Seems like every time I've set my mind to post regularly, something has interfered. This thing called life can have so many hurdles! I have no complaints though... Hopefully this is the start of the consistency I'd like to have.

So many things have happened since my last post. I'll start with a positive... First, I finally received word that I'll be going on tour this fall with Hip Hop Artist, Mahogany Jones via American Voices! We auditioned back in February in St. Louis vying for 1 of 12 selections being made out of 40 groups! Honestly, this has been the best news I've received all year & I'm so thankful for this opportunity! Not only will we be doing shows, but we'll be doing workshops for kids between the ages of 9 & 12 years old! Having an opportunity to do what I love & impact lives is unbelievable!! I'm really excited & looking forward to the other doors that may open because of this tour abroad!! If you want more info, go to www.americanvoices.org to see what I'll be doing.

Second, I've been asked to travel & perform with Singer/Songwriter Joe Pore as well!!! I'm excited about this too!!! Joe Pore is an awesome performer & I'm honored that he'd even consider me being a part of what he's doing as an artist. If you're not familiar with his name now, you will be!! He currently has a single on iTunes & is working on his first full length project!! I'll keep you posted!! He was a part of the group 7 Mile that released an album in the late 90's!! He was a youngin' back then lol! I still have that cd too!! I was bumping it hard back in the day!!

Lastly, I'm happy to announce my Open Mic Jam event will be celebrating 1 year of its existence next month!!! This has been a year of ups & downs, but well worth it!! I've learned so much & looking forward to improving the event & providing even more exposure for all the artists that perform there!! We'll be celebrating each Wednesday in June with special performances every week!! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!

I'm not going to highlight the things that went wrong or not according to my plans... I'm not letting these things hinder me or my progress. I thank GOD for giving me strength to endure when I wanted to give up. I'm thankful for having a resilient spirit. I refuse to let anything stop me from achieving the goals I've set for myself. Most importantly, I won't let anything keep me from fulfilling GOD's purpose for my life. If you can dream it, you can achieve it!

Thanks for listening...
